Dr. Priehs received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1984.  Dr. Priehs was awarded a year long internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Oradell Animal Hospital, a large specialty hospital in the New York City area.  After completing his internship, Dr. Priehs remained on their clinical faculty where he studied with the vet ophthalmologist at the Animal Medical Center, New York City for 2 years. In 1987 Dr. Priehs began his two-year residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Gainesville and became a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 1991. Dr Priehs has authored numerous ophthalmology articles, and text book chapters. His professional interests include intraocular surgery and exotic animal ophthalmology.  Dr. Priehs is active in local and state organized veterinary medicine and at a national level in the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.  He generously donates his professional services to the Canine Companions for Independence organization and to Audubon Center for Birds of Prey.  His personal interests include spending time with his family, wife Carla, children Bethany, Buddy, Sam and Lily, and his French Bulldog ‘Pickles’. Dr Priehs is also an avid golfer.

Heidi Denis, DVM, DACVO
Diplomate ACVO

Dr. Denis received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 1997.  After completing a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Michigan State University, she returned in 1998 to the University of Florida for a residency in Comparative Ophthalmology. Dr. Denis became a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2001. She has served on the ACVO Examination Committee, responsible for evaluation of candidates seeking ACVO diplomate status.  Additionally, Dr. Denis was a Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine from 2003 to 2004.  Dr. Denis has written book chapters and been published in various peer-reviewed scientific journals. Her professional interests include eyelid surgery, marine mammal and other exotic animal ophthalmology, and corneal surgery and transplantation.  Her personal interests include spending time with her family and pets. Dr. Denis also enjoys riding her cutting horse Peppermint.


Melanie ChurchMelanie Church, DVM, DACVO

Dr. Church attended The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she graduated with honors and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Prior to veterinary school, she worked in a small animal clinic and volunteered at The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as well as the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Melanie was president of her veterinary class for all four years and was active in leadership roles for multiple clubs and organizations. Dr. Church received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University in 2008, She then completed a private practice internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta. Dr. Church enjoys volunteering her time and services to help a wide variety of species at aquariums and zoos. She is the author of several scientific articles in the fields of zoological medicine and veterinary ophthalmology. Dr. Church completed her residency in Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology in Phoenix, Arizona 2012, and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2013.

Veterinary Nurse and Office Manager

Rachel has been in the veterinary profession since 1997, and with Animal Eye Associates since 2004.  She is also a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator and enjoys wildlife rescue in her spare time.  Rachel also loves to travel and spend time with family, which include a Quaker parrot, and an African grey parrot.

Veterinary Head Nurse

Jerilyn is a Certified Veterinary Technician and has been in the veterinary profession for 25 years, and with Animal Eye Associates since 1998.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and going to the beach every chance she can!  She also enjoys time with her Labrador Retriever, French Bulldog and three cats.

Heidi is a Certified Veterinary Technician and has been in the veterinary profession since 2004, and at Animal Eye Associates since 2010.  Heidi enjoys spending time with her family, as well as her two dogs.  In her spare time, Heidi enjoys going to the Disney parks!

Mindy is a Certified Veterinary Technician and has been in the veterinary profession for 14 years. Mindy has been with Animal Eye Associates since 2015.  In her spare time she loves spending time with her family, her two boxers, cat, guinea pig and bearded dragon.
